Up until 2004, Nissan had never made a full sized pickup truck for the North American market until they introduced the Titan. The truck was designed and built on the Nissan F-Alpha platform, which is also found in the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs. Currently it is manufactured at the Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The truck was not built to compete with the vehicles produced by Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge, but has been considered an alternative to these costly vehicles with 25% of sales of the Nissan Titan occurring in the south central parts of the United States.
The Titan was well received, but there are rumors circulating that Nissan may discontinue the roomy and well appointed truck after the release of the 2010 model because of the decline in sales the company has experienced.
